I'm in Michigan and have located several old settlements by looking at the old maps on that site.

did you ever get anything of interest from from the old settlements you found?

Hello Siz. I've lived in upstate most of my life, I'm not familiar with Dutches County but I feel most of N.Y. state has the same history in a way. In the early nineteenth century more than half of the people were farmers, as they moved to the citys their farm houses just rotted away. The railroads and canals caused great migrations of people from one area to another. Overall most of upstate N.Y. is one huge ghost town. All you need to do is find an old county map, take a ride and look for farms or vacant land, check your map and ask for perrmission. Almost every farmer I've met has been very polite, well good luck, Darryl.

Ax heads, buckles, a horse shoe, tools. In a few areas we hit some coins, pulled 5 indian heads out of one site and a hunting buddy got a 1952 50 cent piece.
