Question for those that have used ARA refiners:

Question for those that have used ARA refiner's co:

I want to know if they accept war nickels. And how about foreign silver coins? (which are sometimes .720, or .80 pure, etc.. and not .90 like our US silver coins).

The reason I ask is, Midwest specifically says they do NOT accept war nickels (why that is, I don't know, since it's all going to be melted down and slag skimmed off anyhow). Nor does Midwest accept foreign silver coins, according to their website instructions. So I sent an email to the "contact us" tabs of ARA, to ask if they accept these type silver coins. No one gets back to me.

So what's the word? Do they accept war nickels? With the price of silver the way it is, war nickels now have $2-ish each in silver content, and I have a bunch of them burning a hole in my pocket :)

you would probably be better off selling them out right. they might not take them just like the scrap yard can't accept pennys because of the government.

Hey guys, ARA Co. answered me back. Yes they accept war nickels. Strange that mid-west doesn't, but ..... oh well.

John in TX, to answer your question, first go to this site:

http://www.coinflation.com/

Scroll down to the 2nd half of the page, and look up silver dimes (roosies or mercs, they're all the same silver content). Then you'll see it has the current silver content value, based on the spot market of silver, at the exact time's market quote. This price per dime already factors in that the coin is only 90% silver (and the rest alloys). What it doesn't account for, is the refiner's "cut" that is charged for the profit that the refiner must make. I believe ARA pays 90% for silver (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that percentage) of the day's price, of whatever day they receive your shipment. Thus, their cut is 10%.

So take the link above, multiply out whatever the silver content value is, by x .90, and you'll arrive at the price the refiner pays you, assuming that particular spot price on the day your shipment arrives there. Right now, for example, when you do that math, silver dimes are paying ~$2.80 each. (Wow, get a few per hour, and you can make better than minumum wage! wow :) )

I have been hunting since 1976 and have found 1544 silver dimes, not to mention the silver quarters and half dollars, that is a good chunk of change....I love this hobby. John

Awesome silver totals! Did you happen to hold on to all of them? 1544 dimes is about 50K dollars at today's spot price! :yikes:

I think you're doing the math wrong. Multiply 1544 x $2.80-ish per silver dime, and it doesn't come to $50k.

At today's silver value 1544 Roosevelt or Mercury Dimes are worth about $5132.00
Use this calculator to determine values.

This place will probably buy your silver bullion and silver coins, IF you have $1000 worth for spot bid +. Why take less?

I've bought AND sold to the company and it is reputable.

Yeah, I think I mistakenly added an extra zero! Either way, that's a nice pile of silver!
