Question for Those of You That Have Jumpered Your Headphones or Used an Adapter...

Have you noticed any decreased volume in the headphones? It seems that the CTX has a 2-channel output (stereo with the same audio on each channel). The web site shows two acceptable headphone wirings, where the tip, ring, and sleeve all need to be connected. My best guess for the change is that it allows the use of the ubiquitous ear buds without a mono to stereo adapter (though you do need an 1/8" to 1/4" stereo adapter). Since the jumper between the sleeve and ring works, the detector must know when there are 0 ohms between these two connections and do something. The pic on their site shows two speakers in series, effectively doubling the seen impedance. I'm wondering if the machine doubles it's output then on the one "working channel" or not. I'm guessing it must or people would be complaining about a 50% drop in volume.

Any feedback on this?

I often get a huge drop off in volume in my Grey Ghosts but it is always correctable by re-plugging in the headphone adapter (stereo mono adapter). It is annoying but often stays away for hours and then at other times is frequent. I do hope the adapters length is not taking its toll - still is a very tight fit and I have not yet bumped it.

Hi Albert,

I get what you are describing (I call it audio compression) on my SE Pro and have for some time. I always thought it was the machine. Maybe it's the female 1/4" jack. It seems to often correct itself when I hit a larger surface target. Anyone else experience this?

But what I'm curious about here is if the jumper fix between the sleeve and ring wires (same thing adapter does) causes a drop in volume in the headphones. It seems the right solution is to get a set a true stereo headphones. I would not want to use an adapter and modifying the headphones will not only void the warranty, but make them malfunction on machines they worked on.

I don't experience audio drop off but audio bleed with the sound emitting from the headphones and the WM-10 module simultaneously. See my post below that I had in the Detectorpro forum but didn't get much response over there....

Hi All
Is there anyone out there using the CTX with the Uniprobe? If so, have you experienced times where the audio will simultaneously output from both the WM-10 module and the Uniprobe earphone speakers? This will often occur while detecting in trashier areas where large iron exists. I have tried a replacement Radio Shack mono to stereo adapter, and I am now using a different CTX than when I first noticed the issue since that first CTX had an unrelated problem and was replaced by Minelab so the only common hardware is the Uniprobe. So far I have not seen any other reports of this problem, perhaps I am alone?

Does yours seem to be corrected by re-seating the plug? I also find turning it around with pressure helps, but re-plugging it in always does the trick.

Albert yep turning the plug & adaptor seems to do the trick is some what annoying at times but will do for now.
