I use both the tracker IV and the pioneer 505. The 10 inch magnum coil will work on both of these machines, to give them a little more punch. However the 11 inch dd coil will only work on the 505. Has anyone had any comparative use of these coils? In the esteemed experience of the more learned members of this forum, which would be the better buy to take my hunting to the next level? HH Ed in co.
 
Hey Ed. I own a 505. I honestly have no experience with the 11" DD tho I have read many glowing reviews. Your other coils as you know are concentric and the 11" is DD. Big difference in certain soil conditions. I mostly use DD coils on my other detectors but I keep concentrics also. I hope this helps you to some extent. Thank you Matt for your kind reply. I know that the 11 inch has better ground penetration in highly mineralized soil, but since I am primarily a coin-shooter (parks, yards etc.) is the price difference, ie. $60.00 versus $135.00 worth it between the two coils? HH Ed in co.
 
Hey Ed. Something that would drive me nuts having the 11" DD on my BH would be that there is no pin-point trigger. Its most likely just me but I have had a difficult time with my Sovereign GT and the stock 10" DD when it comes to pin-pointing. The cool thing about the BH concentric coils is that they kinda have a built in target finder with that open hole in the middle of the coil. I prefer DD coils of all sizes to concentric coils for my soil conditions. My Pioneer 505 most often has the BH 4" Nugget coil on. Don't need a pin-pointer with a 4" coil! LOL! My DFX detector has a pin-point trigger which is great and allows me to utilize larger DD coils without driving me nuts. I must admit I've had good hunting with the stock concentric coil on my 505. I have heard that the fisher 11dd coil with push on connection will work on a tracker IV. I would like to try one sometime. I have the 11"DD on my Delta and love it. I have a pinpoint button, but first Texas 11dd coils detect off the tip very nicely. I don't always use the pp button. I will swing the coil back and forth and back up until the target stops. The target is then directly in front if the coil.
 
The same question was posted at Metal Detecting Equipment.

Target separation is better with a DD. I don't have a problem pinpointing using the stock 11" DD coil on my T2. It shows up pretty much under the center dot that's marked on top of the coil. So it might depend a bit on your sites, if they're littered and trashy the DD is your best bet. Otherwise, I'd save the bucks and go with the 10" coil.

Thank you Ed, I believe I will go with the 10" coil as you suggested. I already have the 4" if it gets real trashy. HH Ed in co.
 
use 10 inch on big bud and can never go back to 8 inch
10 inch covers more ground and is so thin
have double d coil on my minelab and pinpointing is harder
have had coils bigger than 11 inches on other detectors and they are awkward
10 or 11 inch are the best coils on all machines
