Question for the hunters....

Last week I was hiking past a golf course that is in the middle of my town and saw a small herd of whitetail. All were very dark & small animals. Nearly black and none would have gone over 90 lbs.

Yesterday when flailng about in the wasteland on the outskirts of the city I saw another group. They all weighed well over 100 lbs and were the colour of the link bar at the top of this page.

The two groups are only a mile apart but seperated by a major highway with an 8' fence on either side.

Why are the two so different? Environment? Bloodlines?

I used to do a lot of bow hunting when I was younger and with the way meat prices are going up and whats being added to beef I'm renewing my interest. Planning on getting a bow and deer permit for next year but 1st I'm studying the local populations. Mapping trails, watering spots etc. In particular trying to figure out which ones are the dumbest.

Thanks, Chris

Whitetails and Mule Deer. Then there are many subspecies of the Whitetails that vary in size and color.
