Guv, i had my exp .xs out this a.m. it shut itself off 3 times in half an hour (using the nimh pack) took it home and turned it back on and its 7 hours now and the unit has not shut itself off again any input? i cleaned the terminals on the pack .unit is only been used about 15-20 hours one good highlight was when i got home after about 30 min. i took it out in my yard and got a nice shiny 60 rosy dime at about 8 inches thanks for your help Robert THIS IS ACTUALLY MY FIRST SILVER WITH MY XS.

Hopefully it'll be okay now but if it does that again when you use it, it "could" be a loose contact (or something similar) that changes when you move the detector. Hard to say exactly without more input but these things usually have a specific cause which must be corrected to make them work normally.
With luck yours will be fine from now on.
HH ... Gord.

Next time it does it take the nimh battery pack out and try the alkaline pack. Could be a problem with the rechargable pack. HH-Coinshooter65

Thanks for your help guys i took both packs and cleaned the terminals they were both getting dull looking.as far as checking the unit out today ITS RAINING AGAIN:::: but thats ok i am laid off HAHAHA. my wife thinks i am bored being off,YEAH RIGHT 20 years and this is my first ever lay off and i am LOVING IT::: she does have a to do list though

If it doesn't act up again you might have the problem beaten. At first I kept accidentally hitting the "Noise Cancel" button by accident. Maybe you just liked hitting the "Power" button?
Anyway... If it re-occurs you might want to send it in. If not it might have been just a phenomena... ??? Maybe the ground and you were charged that day...
Good hunting... Guvner..
