Question for the Canucks...

Did Canada go from silver to clad the same year as the U.S.? And pennies from copper to zinc?

And how long have you had the one and two dollar coins and what is their composition?

Thanks,

Our last year for silver coinage was 1968, whereas you had both clad dimes and quarters and 50% silver dimes and quarters. Our mostly copper pennies changed to zinc in 1997 and then to copper coated steel ( ) in the year 2000 which still exist today. And yes....they do stick to a magnet. I don't even read reports anymore from guys who notch out their pennies on their machines, as indian heads, wheat cents, newer pennies, older pennies, old canadian pennies, new Cananian Pennies and new Steel Canadian pennies all read different. How do you notch all of these variations out?

in 1987 our $1.00 coin was introduced and in 1997 our $2.00 coin was introduced. Our new dimes and nickels are nickel plated steel. It's going to be interesting what all these newer, cheaper coins will look like in 30-40 years when dug up from the ground. :)

I don't think there will be much left of them at all, maybe that is the plan? Can you imagine how us MDers throw of the currency balance with all of the lost money that we find every year :) ?
