Question for the 705 owners.

I have a question for the people that own the 705, i have a friend that has one, and i got the 70, on his the numbers don't come up the way they say, like on a zinc penny,
it usually is 30 or 32 on mine and his is a 40 for a zinc penny, and their is that much difference on all the coins, is their a problem with his machine? Harold In Fla.

There's some sort of problem there. Make sure he's not using a copper penny! I would do a factory reset & recheck it. Then if it continues I would change coils if he has an extra one, or else if you're together just unscrew your coil connector and have him attach it to his, you don't have to take the coils of, just swap connectors.

Thank you BarnacleBill for the info, my friend is going to try that and see what's what . thanks Again Harold in Fla.

Harold...Make sure he has the same coil (M) as you do. I use the low frequency coil on my XT70 and the numbers do turn up a little different. It kind of sounds like he may have the low frequency coil. Just a thought! Bill

No, We both got high frequency coils on. Harold

My X-T 70's in ground zinc penny readings with other than the stock coil generally range from 36 to 38 with a rare 40 thrown in for good measure, but it does lock on them which is all that matters. What does your friend's "stock coil" read on a zinc penny, suspect it may read slightly lower than the HF coil does as my HF coil usually reads slightly higher on pennies and clad, but slightly lower on nickels than does the stock coil for some strange reason.

Harold,

How are you?
As the guys said, it could be coil related: related to the use of different coil types..they could produce different ID's
But there is also some variation (a lot actually) between pennies: some are 'debased' meaning the amount of copper
used thru the years has been reduced...zincz might also cause a number 'mis-match'

Where are you in Fla - I used live on Longboat Key...

Good Hunting

Didn't try the stock coil on it yet, he's been busy doing other things, but he said he's going to get to it, right now it's reading 40 for zinc pennys. Harold

Hi BarnacleBill, well we tried what you said, the problem was he had the H coil on and when he swicthed to the standard coil they started reading the right way, what's funny on my 70 with a 5x10 H coil i get the readings that it's suppose to, figure that one, thanks again Harold
