Question for Sea Hunter users

Android

New member
Hello,
I have been borrowing a Tesoro Tiger shark for a little under water hunting. I would like to get and under water machine for myself. I really can't afford the excalibur so I thing I would like the sea hunter mark 2.
To you sea hunter users, can you get an idea of the target in the ground before you dig it. Or does all metal sound the same. The tiger shark has a single tone for all targets but how it signals gives me an idea of what is in the ground. The reason I want te sea hunter is I think it will give me a bit more depth than the tiger shark.

Any commets welcome

Two totally different beasts!! The Mark II is a PI machine and really built for the beach and the Shark is a VLF machine and I have heard is not that great at the beach even tho it has a Salt mode. Just the one tone on the Mark II also and being a PI, it loves iron...and bobby pins!! I have only used mine a couple of times in fresh water but it will hunt. You can hear a kind of double beep over rusty nails and such and can ignore them. There are more experienced users than myself on here and I'm sure they will jump in and give you some more insight!! Good luck with your decision!!

Thanks BCD,
Most of my under water will be in fresh water. I think in no time I will be able too differentiate some signals from others.

Being that you are fairly new to metal detecting, the Sea Hunter might be a little confusing for you. No discrimination. I wouldn't suggest you get a PI at thids stage of the game. I suggest you shop around and see what other makes of machines are out there. Perhaps you can get a used water machine on the classifieds.

I'm with John. Unless you've got a few years of detecting under your belt with various machines a PI is not one to start out with as they have quite a learning curve for the uninitiated and can drive you nuts.

I actually have 8-years under my belt with an xterra, a soverrign, and a gti 2500. I'm sure if I can figure out a sovereign, I can figure out a PI. But thanks anyway.

Get your self a SEA HUNTER 11, dig every thing and learn as you go. Your going to end up digging everything anyway
if you expect to find the good stuff.

Then you'd have no problem. It would basically be like hunting in all metal with a VLF - dig everything. Remember, Mel Fisher found the Atocha with one of these machines.
