Are you still using the excelerator 14" coil on your MXT. I found one of your older post on field testing coils and found it very helpfull. What is your opinion on pin pointing with the Ex 14", I have read some post where some state it can be a challenge.HH TB

Tom, I do use it from time to time, but I don't use larger-than-stock coils all that often.
Part of the reason is my bad back and health which takes a toll when using larger coils. I prefer the 12

Thanks for the info Monte, I appreciate your input and respect your feed back. My next purchase will be the 5" excelerator, right now I am hunting large flat areas in the desert while it is cool. I spend the summer researching old military sites and the winter hunting them. TB

The DD coil i use on my Garrett pinpoints off the front tip as you pull the coil back towards you and the sound goes away. It is very accurate. Hope this helps even though it is not a Whites.

When using a 12.5" ExCelerator, I move it side to side and let it drift to the side and while I still have a decent signal, I double click the pinpoint switch and hold. Then bring it back to the target until you get the best signal, slide it back toward you until the signal abruptly dies. That is the target center- on mine it was at the "Ex" of the word Excelerator. Easier done than said. If it's not deep I can put my White's BullsEye on that spot and it'll buzz spot-on (in case you have any doubt).
I think it will work in reverse with the drop off being close to the end of the bar (nearest you). It'll read deeper than it actually is by a couple inches.
Have fun. <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:"> HH
