Question for Monte, Mr. Bill, or?

I have a Classic III SL with Mr. Bill mods. When i get to an area to hunt i push the trigger forward into all metal mode, set the ground balance and then move the trigger back to the discriminatate mode. Does ground the balancing carry over and improve depth in the disc. mode or am i wasting my time if i don't hunt in all metal mode? Thanks.

You are doing it properly. Ground balance in all metal or pinpoint and then switch over to Disc. The GB does carry over to the Disc mode. You usually want the GB to be slightly positive so the threshold just slightly increases on the way down. A slightly positive GB will help with reducing false signals also.

Mine has Mr. Bills mods that add an external GB and Threshold adjustment as well as an increase of the gain.

??? I thought the Classic three was just a basic detector. I had no idea it
could be ground balanced.

Robt2300,

Stock from the factory.... the Classic lll SL without the Mr. Bills modification is ground balance adjustable, it has an access hole on top of the detector housing to make adjustments. To GB lift up the "Made In America" sticker and with a small slotted screwdriver, turn counterclockwise to make it more positive, clockwise to make it negative. Just a little very slight movement is needed and easy to do.

But you don't want to be adjusting it too often as those factory Pots are not made to hold up to a lot of turning.

Rebel1,

I have adjusted mine one time, it is very forgiving on the GB in my soil, it just does not need constant adjustments....just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Hombre,
Once or twice may be fine but for those that move to diferent sites with different soil types and want to GB at each site the factory pot adjustment is Not the way to go.

I'm not putting down your modded Classic lll SL,,, I'm just saying for some people, the Mr. Bill's modification is not an option as he no longer does these mods. I advised Bucksport that the mod was not needed and how to GB his stock Classic lll SL and look what he found, the nicest seated half dollar I've ever seen. Peace.

Hombre,
No problem. Actually, if i had it to do over again i would probably do without the extra $100 i paid to have the mod done. But since i have it i may as well use it right.
Take care and good diggin'.
