Question for Infinium owners ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
Getting ready to do some low tide beach hunting and was checking out the Infinium I bought used a month or so ago.

It will air check a quarter at about 9 inches or so.
Is that about right for the 10x14 DD ProFormance coil?

Probably....when I first got my Infinium years ago, I too did a bunch of air tests. The results were mixed and at times disappointing. For example, a gold ring could easily be detected at least 2 x as deep in the sand as compared to an air test with the same type of target. Now this is in a freshwater sand matrix. Give the Infinium a spin in the real world with some matrix and the results change drastically. Here's another example of an air test I performed last winter for coil type/size comparisons .

Hey Willie,

Thats about right for that coil...

Being a pulse induction detector it doesnt air test too well. A pulse induction detector charges the ground with around 440 volts...that gives it the good depth in dirt as opposed to air. Also it makes it a more hotter/more sensitive machine when the dirt is wet.

As a general rule you can add about 25-33% more depth to the target you do in air test, also, you can subtract that same amount from VLF air test to get a more accurate depth it could be in the ground.
