question for hardened gold hunters

this is a question i"v been meaning to ask for a wile " what type of sand do you find most of your gold in " i just watched the vid by oldbeachhunt & was interested to see him pull a honker of a ring outta the soft sand, about 90% of my gold rings come outta gravel/shells/clay hard pack or in rock cracks i find very few in the soft sand on the beach or in the water.
i"v spent quite a bit of time detecting highly populated beaches with soft sand all i mostly find are pull tabs, beer caps & cans even in cuts & channels.
i"ll be quite interested to see how many find gold in these areas also if you do find gold there are they new drops or old drops ?
thanks

Hi Lazy,

Your probably putting up with the same frustration that I did.
I'll bet you've tried quite a few of our more popular bayside beaches and found nothing but bottomless sand with only a few light targets.
Just gotta keep moving around till you hit the right spots.
Funny thing is though that often the right spots are nearly identical to the crap spots, in that the sand is soft and deep.
If theres not too much ferrous around then I hunt in pinpoint, its amazing the depths I'm pulling 20c coins from.
I watched the vid on using pinpoint. I cant get that nice steady threshold tone like he did, my threshold wavers constantly regardless of where I set the sensitivity so I turn the threshold down and basically run in silent. Like this I find goodies that I would never get anywhere near to in disc. I believe its the only way to work a lot of our bayside beaches.
Either that or trade your Excal in on a good PI unit.

With winter approaching with its predominantly Westerly winds, I've been thinking of trying some of the areas on the other side of the bay...... Geelong, Portarlington, Indented Heads etc.
Will keep you posted.

Cheers.

Lou.
