Question for Explorer users.

I prefer conductive, only because that is what I started with and never left it. Ferrous tones scare me ...

I, too, prefer conductive. I agree with Dave -- that's what I started with, and am most comfortable with. Having said that, there are times when ferrous is helpful, and have used it a time or two in the past. However, my impression is that the CO numbers are much more stable on Explorers, while the FE numbers vary greatly -- especially on deep targets. Thus -- I'd rather have my sounds "tied" to the more stable number, as opposed to the number that tends to vary more.

Just my thoughts.

Steve

Same here. I tried Ferrous a couple times but by learining Conductive first I was biased. To each his own. The Explorer will make great finds regardless of tones you decide to go with.

I use both depending on where i am hunting. I only hunt old dump sites and ghost towns here in NM and there is alot of small ( coin size) old rusty trash. I will switch to hear the different tone of the ferrous and nonferrous targets. it is something one has to get use to and will be confusing and a bit awkward at first, but one your ear is trained, it will come natural. try it some time. As for the digital, i very very seldom use the digital screen, too many numbers to deal with and if the target is corroded it will have a different number than the same item without corrosion. too many variables.

Later, Trashpicker.
