Question for Excalibur II owners

I have been lurking here for a long time and decided to join.

I hit the surf yesterday and it was really rough. I noticed that as I and the machine were hit with waves it would give off a tone, like their was a target there when there wasn't. Is this normal?

I have also tried the auto position even though I don't use it, I wanted to check it out and it doesn't appear to be working, unless I am doing something wrong. When in auto I cannot get a smooth threshold and the machine chatters in all sorts of tones? The battery was fully charged,,,,

Here are the settings I have been running in

Disc = 3

Sens = 11 O'clock or 1:00

Threshold = Slight buzz, like gentle buzz of a bee

Volume = 3/4's to full...nice and loud but not insane

Disc/Pinpoint = Disc

Set the Descriminate to 1

Turn the volumm all the way up

Then use the threshold to where you very hear a tone comfortability

Take it out of descriminate as above to # 1 like all metal mode.. hope this works

I don't use the pinpoint mode

Thanks Gold I will give that a try. I thought maybe something was wrong with it and there maybe. I hope that works, as I hate to send it back...

I noticed the same thing with the waves hitting it. When the coil comes out of the water it will go off. I have my disc set at 1 threshold to where I barely hear the buzz and volume at about half way, my hearing is bad enough, I don't want to blow out my eardrums. :)

Lets git cha all fixed up right Floridabill:

Here are the settings I have been running Excals in.

Disc = 3-TOTALLY wrong, NEVER run anything but minimum, mine is at 1 and never moves, you like gold right?

Sens = 11 O'clock or 1:00
Set arrow pointing straight to the coil or 12, but you may be OK at 11(lose the Auto), unless it seems like a high pitched hum at barely audible. This means the unit is not dealing well with the ground and you are losing depth.

Threshold = Slight buzz, like gentle buzz of a bee-Get rid of the bee and go just below barely audible. If the threshold tone comes back over the headphones, you may still be set too high.

Volume = 3/4's to full...nice and loud but not insane-This is good, but I run wide open

Disc/Pinpoint = Disc-This is perfect!

Some of these things will sound unorthodox, but I learned most of them from cjc (Clive James Clynick) and would highly recommend that you read his Excal, water hunting and sight reading books. Try these things I suggested and see if she not only performs better, but your finds column will be the better for it.
Thanks GH for the tips I will give them a try....
Listen to Gulf Hunter. I've had mine for a week now and have used his recommended settings at every hunt. I am finding things as small as tinfoil the size of eraser heads and even found a cell phone the other day 12 inches under the sand. Now all I need to do, is be at the right place :)
