I just finished reading your hunt results from all the different coils.Very impressive! My question for you is, why no nickles? You know if your finding coins that old there has got to be
some old nicks down there to. Dont you go after these coins also? I posted a question a few days back asking for nickel digging help and got some fine tips. I also noticed a lot of
people read my question so i dont think im the only one with this trouble. Maybe you could share your thoughts on the finding the elusive .05 piece. I know i could use any advice
you would be willing to share and it looks like quite a few other folks could to. thanks

I seriously have such a limited amount of hunt time...that I simply do not chase nickel hits.

Every time I do...it's a pulltab.

I have spent 99% of my time training my ears for the sound of silver and injuns...so I don't do well with lower conductor hits.

Now if I'm at a site where I'm finding some really nice old seated and barbers...I'll try some lower conductor hits hoping for a gold coin. What do I get?...you guessed it...more pulltabs:cool:

I know I walk over a gold ring every now and then...but i also walk over at least 100 pulltabs to every one of those gold rings.

I am not into the hobby for the monetary value of my finds...and I'm not a coin collector. I simply am hooked on finding silver and injuns...and just love the hobby for the fun of it.

I guess after I've typed all this stuff in here...it still adds up to the same result....I'm too lazy:rofl:

Ive chased some of those older nickels and they are all over the place... sliding left, up, and down at depth much like those corroded indians. About the only thing you can count on seems to be the conductive number for me it either 4, 5 or 6 so you can see what i mean. If its say 4 inches or so i can normally tell by the sound or a good 10 05 digital reading. Buffs at that depth sometimes are 11 06. Thou exciting to find many of those older nickels arent worth much simply because the metal pits and is so deteriated... unlike silver that may look as good as the day it was lost and is still highly valued. Its like Bryce said, i dont know if its worth spending your valued time on. The explorer in a park isnt the greatest for finding gold rings either amoungst all those tabs. Ill sometimes spend time if i know ive hit a park hard and just havent found silver in awhile.

many buttons, tokens, gold and other cool items can ID the same or close to nickel numbers. It can pay off sometimes!

Heehee :beers: Well said, Bryce
