Question For Beach Hunter

New member
Hey buddy. You might have replied to this. I bought the Beach Hunter 300 this summer after heavy recommendations from a few buddies who have a shop out in Long Island and they love the Beach Hunter. I did ok with it on Cape Cod Mass, but still had alot of false signals even after repeatedly trying to balance the machine. I did find 2 nice gold rings though. It also seemed to work pretty well on Coney Island, where we just moved from. Since we've moved to Western NY, I have tried two beaches on Lake Erie, and the machine lights up everywhere. I have dug the beeps just for kicks and nothing is there. I have had the DFX for about 5 years, and consider myself pretty advanced with this machine. I heard the 300 is basically a water DFX. Is there just too much mineralization at these beaches? The directions are pretty straight forward for balancing it seems. My buddy was using a cheaper white's water machine, can't remember what it was. He didn't find much, but said his machine ran smooth. I'm going to the Cape to see my mom over Christmas, so I will get out on th beach there. I plan on bringing the DFX, and if I have time, comparing signals. Sorry for the long post Just frustrated and wondering on and off why I didn't just get the Excaliber. Desmond in Buffalo

I'M NOT SURE BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A LAKE I TRIED TO HUNT NEAR A FOUNDERY...IT WAS FULL OF MELTED IRON ALLOY SLAG!! IT MADE ME NUTS!! OTHER WISE I HAVE HAD NO ISSUES...I HUNT IN ALL-METAL, GROUND SET AT HALF WAY , SENSITIVITY AT "P", USE THE LIGHTS TO ID MY TARGETS. I BUMP UP THE SENS AT TIMES...BUT THESE SETTINGS ON MY DETECTORY ARE GREAT DEEP STABLE ECT. THEY WORK FOR ME 99% OF THE TIME IN SALT WATER.

Des...did you try lowering the sensitivity. I, like BeachHunter, find the BHID300 runs very deep and STABLE in the pre-set sensitivity setting. I have tried upping and and re-ground balancing. In some areas I can raise it up, but once it starts falsing and multiple lights flash on and off, I know it's too hot.

Also, just for kicks, did you try using it with the GB knob all the way clockwise, and then all the way counter clock wise ?

JC

Yeah, I tried everything. I have a feeling it's metal or hot rocks. With the false signals on the Cape that I could find, i tried ground balancing on the rock itself, (a buddy suggested this,) but didn't help at all. The Cape beach would go through patches of hot beeps, then fine, and wrk great. But this beach on Lake Erie, forget it. Too bad, because loaded with people in the summer. Would work great in dry sand and up to a few feet, but the makeup of the sand must have changed, because at 2 and a half feet or more, the machine would beep everywhere. Des in Buffalo

Shoot....and I was going to suggest GBing to the rocks as well.

I guess the only other possible solution is to try hunting that beach with a PI and see what happens.

Hi Des,

Have you tried talking to a service rep or dealer in the area? If it is the beach, they have probably heard that story before.

I'll try. There is one bootleg metal detecting shop, but these guys look more like crystal Meth dealers then treasure hunters. I bought the machine from Kelly Co, but they weren't all that helpful. I'm guessing its the beach and nothing wrong with the detector. We'll see next week if its not too cold. Demond

METH??? THAT WOULD HELP ME DETECT FOR DAYS STRAIGHT WITH OUT SLEEP!!! I THINK YOU GOT SOMETHING THERE?????:detecting::goodnight::stretcher: FUNNY??SELLING METH TO GO DETECTING OR DETECTING TO PAY FOR METH??

The BHID300 goes very deep (2 feet for a silver fork). If you are still having problems balancing the unit, contact Whites factory in Oregon. They should be able to help you. They are nice people.

Happy Hunting!
