Question for all you CTX owners

scubadetector

New member
I have lurked and read a lot of posts on here cause the machine interests me. However I am mainly a water hunter and I dive so the machine isn't right for most of my applications. I do land hunt but not a lot. Where I am in Michigan the soil is pretty lose and it seems that coins sink pretty far. So my question is do you think you have gained any deptjh with the CTX or have you just gained a lot better target seperation ability?

Thanks for any and all replies. Will continue to lurk, learn and laugh!!

I think depth gain or loss will vary with the user and their ground and the only way to see how it affects you is to give one a try. I have used detectors that some people rave about that just didn't work for me and vice versa. I'm not going to get into comparisons because that is not allowed on this forum, but I'm keeping my V3i and selling the Deus......

Many people are concerned about depth but there are many other factors to consider when getting a new detector that may affect your decision besides just depth. A good example is if one wants depth, get a PI machine, but in doing so, you lose a lot of features that you may want. It is often a trade off.

You are right Larry .... depth isnt everything. Use a PI in a park it has a ton of depth, but its just not the best tool for that situation. I agree Larry try one out in your area if you are interested.... it may or may not be an improvement. But it does have some advantages .... faster processor, better TID, better balanced, and once people stop using out of the box settings may be just what you are looking for maybe for an all around machine. People may not be taking full advantage of the tones yet either.

Loose or soft soil often means moderate soil conditions. If this is true then depth should be better for you with any unit that most people will get. As for your question, better depth than what unit?
It will be equal to the Etrac which seems to have great depth on silver coins. there are a lot of cheaper units that will get great depth if that is all you are looking for. Maybe a little more info on what
type of hunting you do and what sites you search the most.

Larry, I completly agree on comparisons. Totally unfair unless you have exactly the same soil. same moisture content, same target and totally same variables. So I wasn't looking at that. I was just looking for people that used other Minelabs, and maybe have noticed an edge with this machine in the areas they have hunted to death. I have a friend with a Minelab Explorer II and every target he thought was deep my machine also picked it up with no problem before he dug it. I think the trash seperation will sell me but I was just thinking the people that have one of these critters might have noticed if it gets deeper also.

LOL I don't want a PI machine in my lakes and I sure wouldn't want one on land!!! Going insane listening to thousands of beeps just isn't the way I want to leave this world!!

I'm wondering the same thing, scubadetector. I sold the Excal II that I had set up for wading and bought the 3030 which gets delivered today. I kept my scuba excal. There are several swimming areas in the lake here that I have hunt hard. I get no more targets at all when I hunt there with my Excal II. It will be very interesting to see how many targets come up with the 3030. Very interesting.

CTX goes deeper. It also gives a stronger response on deeper targets. This was bothering me actually because I'm used to being able to tell target depth by degraded quality of the signal and the deep ones were sounding as good as the shallow ones on the CTX. I hear a tone expecting it to be a 1 scoop dig and find myself taking 2-3 scoops. Then last night I finally put the CTX coil over what it consideres a deep target. It gave a noticeably fainter signal. I thought hmmm maybe it was a small target, no it was a dime and I was in awe how deep that mother was. That's my 2 cents worth.
