i recently bit the bullet and purchased the 6" digger coil to try out in some of the many high trash areas around town.
my question is, it came from the factory with a piece of heavy black tape that wraps around the edge of the seam of the coil and coil cover, what is the tape for?
if the tape comes off does the cover fall off? the specs. say it's 100% waterproof but i'm doubting that tape is going to last very long underwater, so you can see why i'm curious.
on the plus side, given the same ground conditions, the ID numbers for coins are exactly the same as the 10.5" 7.5khz coil. also, it's VERY sensitive to SMALL pieces of copper/silver, i dug up a tiny copper disk shape that was 1/32" thick by 1/4" diameter at 3" deep, the sound in the headphones was pinging like a surface find. after digging, i finally found it with the pinpointer and couldn't believe that tiny thing made so much noise under this coil. i thought it was gonna be another small piece of gawdy sterling silver jewelry barely under the surface like the 10.5 would have sounded.
ok, back to the subject, whats up with the damn tape?
thanks, mike.
