Question-Dirty Battery Contacts?

New member
Haven't used my Excal 1000 for the past several months as have been land hunting. When I pulled battery connector yesterday I noticed a very light white powder corrosion(?) on the pins that came off easily when touched (batt still has some charge from last usage). I always try to keep machine well cleaned after usage and stored in a warm place. Should I be lightly cleaning/lubricating connector pins? Thanks for any help!

My spare POD corroded to hell because I mounted it on the shaft with no cover to protect the terminals. It took Salt and Vinegar to clean it up. It looks renewed and to prevent corrosion, I use a a dab of houshold oil, like WD-40 to help protect the contacts.

Use a small amount of baking soda and water on a cotton swab to neutralize the acids that batteries give off. Wipe the contacts with distilled water. Dry off and only apply a dielectric grease designed for electronic contacts. You can get a small tube of it at most electronic or auto-part stores.
