Removing the coil cover just put it on Monday used the vmachine tue and we'd on the jersey Shore rinsed the coil after each use now i can't pry the darn cover off to clean and inspect for sand. Has anyone had this issue and if so did you come up with a solution to removing it next step for me the dremmel tool! HH. C t

I personally don't use coil covers, they are more trouble than they're worth. In nearly 40 years of detecting, I have never worn through a coil. The 10" DD is tough as a boot, when you get the cover off, chunk it :0)

I don't use covers either, I have a box full. Some guys use guitar picks and work two of them to get the cover off. I just get all four fingernails on the edge and pull down working around the coil. I've never had a Whites cover I couldn't get off.

To each their own but the covers are more trouble than they are worth IMHO. Manufactures can't win on the covers, you want them tight enough to keep the sand/dirt out but the price you pay is they are hard to remove. Easy to remove covers allows a lot of debris in and have to be cleaned often.

I pitch the darned things or use them as dog toys.......

Be sure it is a cover and not the actual lower part of coil that is sealed on. It looks like a cover but its not. And i dont use coil covers either.

I purchased the cover from whites long island dist. My intent was to keep the coil protected from scratches and dings the beaches I was hunting had sharp rocks and debrisbleft over from super storm sandy. So yup it served its purpose but now I'm back to my summer parks and can't remove it i don't have much strength left in my fingers to grip it with my nails I can get a bit of movement on one side but it's hard to hold the coil and try to pry it with my fingers my only reason for wanting to remove it is that salt sand may be left under the cover and may cause ground balance issues or false gb in the park the. V machine is awesome but I won't feel comfortable till I properly clean any salt residue. I'm gonna try to grab some guitar picks and see if I can get them to work!!!! Yrs ago this wouldn't have been an issue but since several surgeries and advance in age the fingers don't work as they once did. OK I will keep at it and will stop and grab a few picks. Thank you for the replies and HH. C t

It doesn't have to be a pick. It just has to be soft enough not to chip a coil. I once used a butter knife and did chip a 6x10 coil.

You may have salt residue acting like glue. WD40 won't hurt the coil, try appling to all the edges, don't forget the inside ones. Let it soak and see what happens. if you ever hunt in salt with a cover you need to clean everytime or seal the coil with silicone.

I have always used the covers and have had not trouble with them . My coil is always dragging on the ground so that is the main reason I use one, plus the machine is easier to sell with a clean scratch less coil.

Dip you coil in a bucket of water with dawn dish washing soap this may well ya pull it off. You can also use WD40 and spray around the coil.

CT, I use two popscicle sticks. I get it wedged in between the coil and cover and gently slide the stick around while pulling the cover away. The hardest part is getting the stick started. Hope this helps.

If you are going to use a coil cover .... Make sure everything is clean and then put the cover on THEN run a bead of silicon caulking around all the edges to form a uniform seal between cover and coil.
You will never have to take the cover off again.... But remember... just around the edges so if you do ever want to remove the cover all you have to do is remove that small bead of silicon.
Personally.... I don't use them either and have never worn through a coil.

I thought there might be sand in between the cover and coil so as per Docbars suggestion I soaked the coil for 10 minstrel or so in dawn and tepid water then I used one of those useless till now empty casino cards to loosen the edges and then the center once I loosened the center the cover was easy to go around with my fingers and yes!!!! It popped off. And as I suspected eventhough I rinsed the coil leaving the beach each day there was indeed fine sand and salt residue! OK now that I'm backroom park grass the cover will stay off. Next month if I get back to the beach ill stick to the sandy areas with no cover. If needed I will add the cover but will bring along some wd40. And give that a shot Rob Larry bass Doc Jlon RLOH. As always I appreciate the help. Never had a cover that was so snug. Any other brand detector that I ever used that I ran with a cover was very easy too get off some even fell off during normal park searching. Now I know the tricks of the d2 cover. Also I honestly can say the V machine is one fantastic machine. It has quickly become my favorite so far!!!!!!!! OK again thank you for the help HH c t

You are welcome.
