hi all im new to the c$ i just got it and have used only 4 times. i did go over a area in my yard with it it that i have gone over twice with my explorer and did find 8 coins i missed. any way my question is today i was using the c$ and it was very erratic making tones and # jumping around even when i wasnt moving it , did manage a few coins . i was using the factory settings . any ideas why so erratic or some different settins ? thanks don

Mebbe your Averaging was on, make sure it's off, till you get used to it, that's what it sounds like to me, heck, try it

will have to ck that really dont know how to turn that on but will ck manual Thanks

The readout will be AO, it will read A, A1, and AO which seems to work better for me, also sometimes a transformer in the air, or buried powerlines will mess you up, i have one mystery place that i avoid in a favorite detecting spot, never have figured out what's there, can't find anything, but sure screws up detectors

Don't get discouraged! You will get the hang of it. The factory preset program is a little too aggressive for a beginner. You may want to back off the sensativity a bit. You could also be getting interference from power lines. The C$ will hit on coins with the sens at "0". Try backing the settings off a bit. Be sure to keep coming back here with questions. That's why we are here

Don,
That sounds like a classic case of interference. Sometimes it will go away afer ground balancing and other times not. Reducing the sensitivity will help in a lot of cases and also try going to a more negative threshold setting. Some areas can be impossible on certain days or even different times of the day.

reallt tom sounds like when we use the magnatomter on the wrecks .. the sun and sun spots and the earths mag. has a lot to do with it to

thanks tony tonite i did not try to back off the sens other times i have . also tonite was the first time i used the 10 in coil othe times was the 8 in . would that make a diff.?

those d**n black helicopters even the compasses go screwy when they are around! We never get any sun up here unless its piped in.

wheres that at tom cause i dont want to go there withno sun

I doubt if it was the coil. I would think it was sens. and/or RF interference. I have one place that used to give me a fit. There was a power line over head, and at certain times when there was heavy demand from a manufacturing plant down the line, it would drive you nuts! It sounded like Morse Code in the headphones. I finally had to turn the sens down to "0". I figured I was wasting my time, until I pulled a silver dime out at 4" and then an 1854 half dime a 5". So don't be afraid to run the sens low. I think a lot of times guys try to max it out and there are other factors that are working against them. I have places where I can run at "10" on the sens, but I don't like to dig holes that deep!

Don,
I live near the Lake Michigan shoreline in a snow belt region. The lake affect keeps us under cloud cover for a good part of the winter. It has been sunny for a good part of the day lately which helps the ole cabin fever.
Tom

HAHA yea.. If i get down to the length of my dig tool and i still have to go deeper to get it (specialy in hard ground) i just say screw it. Fill it in and move on lol. Ive had a few of these in the last 2 days.
My tool by the way is about 13-14 in long. Lol spent 45 min today digging one, What did i finaly found at the bottom of a 15 in hole? A Realy old friggin pop can.......UGGGGG all rotted away onlything left was the butt end .. Was hitting at a solid 35 the entire time. Just like a quarter.
