Question about wireless headphones for the Etrac?

Grunter

I saw a set of wireless headphones in Wallyworld that uses a very small USB antenna as the receiver. They retail for $49.98. Do we have anyone out there that can tell me if these would work on the Etrac since it has a USB port?

NO they wont work..

Look up Rapoo H3070 2.4GHz Wireless headphones. I read lots of good reports on them. The cost isn't that much more.

Thanks fellas I didn't want to buy them only to find they wouldn't work. I may try the Rapoos. I've got an older set of Sentry wireless that work but the 1/8 to 1/4 plug doesn't seem to make a solid connection. Also when I turn off the receiver I pick up radios and cellphones with just the headset.

I have an Etrac and use a pair of the Rapoos headphones~ they are fantastic ! I won't use anything else now unless I am forced to.....I am going to get at least one more pair as backup ! There is absolutely no delay so they are great for detecting, or for video games (9 times out of 10 if I can't find them my son is using them on his xbox !)The only drawback is that they need to be recharged, both the little receiver and the headphones have to be plugged in to be charged up. But, the charge lasts for about six hours so it is worth it ( I go detecting for no longer than 3 or 4 hours anyway). They are so light, yet still so much more substantial than earbuds or cheaper 1/8" plug headphones. These do require a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter plug since most detectors only have a 1/4" plug. I think I paid 35-40 bucks for the Rapoo, but well worth it.....They are so comfortable you don't even feel like you are wearing anything....and no more sweaty ears in the summer either ! HH

Anything sold at WallyWorld is most likely BlueTooth technology fine for most home applications but with its inherent delay, definitely not good for metal detecting.
Get the Rapoos, ditch the wires and call it a day, you won't be sorry.

There Yah Go! He nailed it!!

I've been using the Rapoos on and off for a couple of years now. They've been a real value but noticed the battery life failing faster and faster. 3 hours was about all I got on a full charge today---very cold and windy with high volume and lots of targets if that makes any difference

The colder it is out, the shorter the batteries are gonna last...That is the way with most batteries...

HH,
I just bought some, and to tell you the truth, I've been very pleased so far. the lag is very minute is any for me. been doing doing really well of late, so I'm not complaining. I might even pick up another set to swap out in low battery time if needed.

I still have my Grey Ghost

I have a pair of the Rapoo headphones and the wireless part is so awesome! There is not enough delay to notice. The sound is off if you are used to a big set but it's worth it not to be tethered to the machine!

+1

Looks like a new set or something to replace them with for me. After a couple years the battery is on it's last legs. Could be the transmitter or the headphones or both---how could you tell?
For less than 50 bucks , how can you complain?

I just ordered a wireless tdk wr700 off of eBay, use replaceable batteries. A little more expensive at 115.00 including shipping. But don't have to worry about rechargeables.

Do you charge both the transceiver and receiver at the same time? I read awhile back that the batteries between those 2 actually have different charging rates . So when you charge them it sees one battery charge and then shuts down. This means the other battery is only partially charged and will discharge sooner.
It is recommended to charge the trans fully and then remove and fully charge the rec.
This is the method I have used on my set ups and I usually get 8 hours from the Auvios and 6 from the Rapoos.

Thank you---it's worth a shot and yes , I do charge them together when they play me the little low battery tone. I notice the charging light dims on both but that could be a reduction in power supply .

The Rapoos come with a USB 'Y' cable which enables charging both the headset and the xmitter simultaneously. Each of those two units have an independant charging regulator and each will have a full charge LED. The xmitter typically charges quicker than the headset. You got to wait til both LEDs on each unit signal a full charge.

They will both fully charge in about 1 to 2 hrs. depending on how depleted the batteries are.

A little over three is all their good for anymore--it makes no difference how you charge them.

Which is the reason i picked up a backup set though i seldom detect for over 3 hours anyway. They're cheap enough.
And if all else fails, there's always the 'dog leashed' headphones held in reserve if forced to use them!:cry:
