question about tones in different modes

ok I read about someone here hunting in relic mode, so I tried it today while at the school. The signals (tones) are so much louder and clearer in relic mode VS. coin mode, why is that?? When I get a target in coin mode it is a soft tone, doesn't really seem loud at all, I can flip it to relic mode, go over the same target and it is clear, high pitched, very distinct. Would be nice if you could choose tones to use on different modes. I may just hunt in relic mode all the time.

I honestly don't know why it's clearer on the relic mode, but that's the way I usually always hunt when going for deep targets. Playgrounds, etc. I use the coin-jewelry mode and dig everything. Maybe someone would know why the signals are clearer. Good question. HH to all Nancy

I get good clear signals in all three of my modes. I can't tell any difference except for tone change.

wonder what I am doing wrong then? how deep does an object have to be before the sounds gets quiet?

because if something is like 1-3 inches deep I get a LOUD clear signal in coin mode. If it is more than that I get real quiet tones and I actually have to keep my eye on the screen to see if I am over a good target or not.

If I am in relic mode the signal is nice and clear, no matter the depth. I have not come across anything more than 6" yet, but it was a nice clear signal. When I got that signal at 6" I switched it back to coin mode swang the coil over it and it was real quiet and soft. And yes I have good hearing....lol
just in case that was your next question

You aren't doing anything wrong. My MXT hits harder and sounds louder in relic also, IMHO. My C/J sounds more muted. There is a point in the + range when you will lose modulation and deep and shallow targets sound the same. There will be a depth where you will barely hear an audio signal and the screen might not give a reading, these have been some of my best deep finds. Rob

I was wondering about that because I planted a coin garden a couple weeks ago, and my ace250 could not pick them up, but the MXT gives a soft tone, but no VDI reading........? all coins are 7+ inches, I measured when I buried.
