I went to check-out a new field today in hopes of making a couple quick finds to try to get my dad back out for some more MDing. Only find was 2 Memorials somehow stuck together. I was only about 5 minutes from the field we'd hunted yesterday, so I thought I'd run over there for a few more minutes of detecting the same area I made my 2-cent find.
I found what I thought was a fatty. I could tell it was a bit thicker than a regular cent, and I could tell it was a coin, but wanted to wait until I got home to rinse it off. That, and a wheatie were my only 2 rewards for the day.
Anyway, after cleaning it, I noticed the obverse is similar to the Matron Head Large Cent, as is the reverse......but thing is, it's the same size as a small cent. I also noticed a large "pit" on each side of the coin, so I was no longer concerned in taking care in cleaning it, so out came the brass brush.
I was looking for a date, but there is none. If it were a Large Cent that was cut-down, the date would have been removed in the process. However, my Blue Book shows most of the Large Cents have the "ONE CENT" underlined on the reverse.
Any ideas....or am I correct in guessing this is just a cut-down Large Cent?
I know the pics stink, I can't take close-ups of small items at all. The coin isn't totally trashed, the ONE CENT and Wreath are well visible with a big gouge in the upper half of the N (in ONE). Bad spot on obverse is in the center of her neck.

ETA: That's a wheatie on the left.
