Question about the White's P.I. DF

I just purchased a DF a week or so ago it was a used machine 4 or 5 months old just got around to setting it up. What I need to know is with it set on all the pre set marks and laying the targets on the ground . First I have a small ladies wedding band and a silver dime and a piece of gold about 4 grams. I can only pick the wedding band up at about three inches the dime at four inches and the gold at about two inches. Is this normal or is there a problem with the machine. I also us a TDI Pro and the distance is two to three time that distance. Please advise does the unit need to go back to Whites? Thanks
