Question about the Vaquero's pinpointer

First, yes I know that most of the time pinpoint isn't even needed on this machine. But when you do use it, do you still have to keep the coil in motion? Or can you just press the button and then just "sit" the coil in different spots to get a fix on the target?

Thanks

Sit or move slightly and listen for the loudest tone.

You can also detune to zero in even closer.

Get a signal, pinpoint as close as you can, let go of the PP button and move the coil a few inches from target center where you would still get a small "part" of the signal.
Hit that PP button again and you will notice the field has now become smaller so it is more precise and you can get even closer to the target.
Just like a Propointer.

That being said, I never do this.
The Xing is so close on the Tesoro's and my Propointer brings me to the exact spot of target center.

Thanks. I've seen some videos of a few people still moving the coil when they pinpoint (just as much as when they swing) and I prefer to kind of sit the coil in different spots and listen while sometimes detuning like you said.

HH :)

You can switch into all metal and it is basically the same thing, also.
Just listen for the change in the theshold tone.

Hitting that PP button changes the Vaq into all metal mode.

I usually hunt tot-lots in all metal.
You get the deepest that way, and I am more than happy to clean out all the dangerous nails, screws, and other metal stuff for the kiddies as a sort of thank you for the privilege of hunting these sites.

Once in awhile, however, I will just set the disk at the area I want, and then keep the PP button pressed as I search and release it as I come across signals to check where they fall in line.
Above or below my disc setting.
I don't have to thumb that disc knob all the time when I do it this way.

You use more battery power this way, but the Tesoro's are pretty thrifty in battery use so it is no big deal.
