Question about the Vaquero

Jeff in Pa

Well-known member
First I should say that its been a few years since I have been here or detecting. I have owned the Ace 250, the Soveriegn and the Explorer XS. I was never very good with the Explorer, just couldn't get the hang of it while my buddy I hunted with was a master with it. Anyway I have got the itch again to detect and I have decided on the Vaquero. I like the simplicity of it and it does go deep. I coin and relic hunt but coin hunt more, I am interested in the small coil. Which one should I get, concentric or double D? Also does the Vaquero use the long or the short cable? I have some real good places to work the Vaquero but trash may be an issue and I thought the small coil would be a help.

Thanks in advance..

Jeff

Definitly get the concentric coil, it is a better discriminating coil. The widescan is better suited for the gold fields where hot ground can be an issue. The only reason I know of for getting a long cable would be for water hunting, don't see a use for it otherwise. I ordered a 5x10 a year or so ago and it came with the long cable, it just means I have to wrap it around the shaft more to use up the exess cable.
The V is a great coin getter, take the time to learn it and it won't let you down. Best of luck to you.

For coins in trashy sites get the concentric. I haven't noticed any loss of depth compared with the 9x8 when in the field. It doesn't get hung up in the brush since it is not spoked like the 9x8.
