Question about the Minelab Advantage

Neil

Well-known member
Does anyone know what coils besides the slimlines are available for this detector?

Thanks,
Neil

The original Musketeer/Sterling/Tribune line had multiple coils; small to large. The Advantage evolved from this circuitry. Unfortunately, these coils are no longer available. There may be some after market coils, but I'm not sure. Check with Doc @ Coiltek. His link is on the prospecting forum and they are in Las Vegas.

In addition to the Minelab TS800 and TS1000, you can also use the 15" WOT and the Excellerator 5" coil. I have them all, and each one has it's purpose. The 8" TS800 is my "go to" coil for coin hunting in yards etc. If I am in a nasty trashy area, you can't beat the separation characteristics of the 5" Excellerator coil. If I am out looking for caches or post hole banks, the WOT will get me the depth I need. I've dug countless "fist sized" targets at depths exceeding 2-feet with the WOT. I seldom use the TS1000 as it doesn't give me much more depth than the TS800. It does, naturally, cover more ground with each swath. The little 5" doesn't go real deep. But I can crank the discrimination up in a nasty park and cherry pick coins at 6 inches.

The earlier Musky series had some interesting coils. I've owned the Tribune, the Sterling and the Musky X. What I've determined is that the original coils used on those earlier "round tube" shaped Muskies will not work effectively on the Advantage. The Advantage coils work on those older detectors. But the older coils will not work well on the Advantage. Seems the receive coil resistance is different on them, compared to the Advantage. My analysis is that the Advantage coils are "backward compatible" with the earlier Muskies. But the early model's coils were not "forward compatible" with the Advantage. JMO HH Randy
