Question about the GTI 2500 and it's ground balancing capabilities.

So I know the 2500 has fast track and manual balance in the all metal mode. But what about the disc modes. Are the disc modes on a 2500 essentially fixed.

Thanks in advance.
Jason

The ground balance works exactly the same for either mode. In Auto you can set the tracking rate (Slow Med. Fast).Manual where you can adjust it to your liking.....a little positive or negative or dead on. If you are asking if you can adjust the discrimination the answer is yes. You can notch out what you want in any of the preset modes or set up a custom mode.

The discrimination modes are factory preset. So, to get the best results, hunt in true all metal mode then switch to your pre-set discrimination to further evaluate your target. Garrett also upgraded the detector several years ago with a new chip which allowed the GTI 2500 to operate in extremely high mineralized soil, The upgrade was also available to those with an older model for a fee.

Auto Track (pg. 54 of the manual)
This Search Aid permits the detector to maintain optimum ground balance automatically, regardless of hanging mineralization or other conditions. There are three tracking speeds: slow, medium and fast. Use slow tracking when scanning over ground with consistent mineral conditions.or those that change only slightly as you move along. Increase the tracking speed as necessary to cope with varying ground mineralization. Fast tracking speed allows operation over severe ground conditions, such as heavily mineralized rock slides. To use Auto Track, scroll through All-Metal menu selections until Auto Track appears on the screen. You can then use the (+) pad to increase the tracking speed which will be indicated on the Upper Scale. When all segments on this scale are lit, Auto Track is working at its maximum speed. Use the (-) touchpad to decrease tracking speed or to turn OFF Auto Track. When no segments are lit and the word is blinking, it is turned OFF.

If you call Garrett's and provide them with your serial number, they should be able to tell you if it has the newer chip.
