Question About The CTX Arm Cuff ?

I've read that you always have to use the wrist strap on the arm cuff with the CTX because of the way the machine is balanced.
Is this true or not ?

Well the Detector Police will not come and get you if you don't but it feels "lighter" if you do.

I almost never use the cuff strap. For one thing, it's too short to fit around my arm with a jacket on. I use the swing support vest with two rods most of the time, so my arm just guides the head rather than support it. It's almost balanced with the small coil, but coil heavy with the 17" coil, so the weight is pushing the rest against my arm usually.

Drj, are you talking about a swing support vest like cameramen use? Can you attach a picture of it with your detector?

I posted pics about a month ago on "Pro Swing and the 3030" . It's just the Minelab Pro Swing harness with both right and left rods installed, and the holsters for Pinpointer and small shovel on one side and find bags on the other side. You pick up the harness and the detector and you've got all you need to go. Like a fireman sliding into his gear...

I've glued these rods with JB Epoxy putty to keep them from coming apart. In this configuration you have to sort of lower the harness over your shoulders due to the increased rigidity, but using both rods places more weight, more evenly, on the hips. Kind of like having a backrest while you're detecting- very comfortable. I hang a shovel or sand basket off whichever side is free from the detector. I sometimes switch detecting hands also.

Oh, OK I remember that post. Thanks for sharing the info. Where did you get the second set of rods?

Bart at Big Boys Hobbies got me a spares set which includes the extra shaft Velcro hook, bunjie Cords and slide lock, and the two rods. It's easy to remove one of the rods if you wish. Gluing the pieces together is no problem since one is glued for Left, the other glued for Right.

Also, since gluing the rod pieces, I've had no problem with the ball ends coming loose, so I don't use those red bunjie cords shown in those pics anymore.

I just returned from using the CTX in the Gulf of Mexico and it's so nice not to have to hold your detector, shovel, nor scoop when wading in the surf.

Here's all my son got, along with some Whites... While I cleaned up wit 62 cents, fishing weights, shells, fossils, and other valuable items...

Hard to see, but here the CTX is just hanging by my side by the bungie cord while I check the scoop. No strain for an old guy.

Only time I lift the detector is going uphill, or pull on the bungie to lift it. Note no cuff strap. I keep the coil close to my feet, esp the 10x5" CoilTek because it tends to float. And with the 17" be ause it's too heavy to fight for hours if it's extended very far. I avoid metal shoes, etc. and have to keep the shovel and esp. The sand scoop off to the opposite back side. The 17" can pick up metal siding, cars, etc from quite a side distance.
