question about the 1270 in all metal

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
If you're hunting in all metal with the 1270 and get a signal on a deep target, then use iron disc to check your target, do you lose depth and,or does it break up and give you a so called non diggable tone.

All metal ground balanced is the deepest mode your 1270 will run in.
If it beeps and you then switch to iron disc and loose the beep, you will know that it was a small piece of metal.
If the signal is repeatable you have either a large piece of metal or a non iron target.
You would then have to switch to normal disc and find out wether you have an iron or a non iron target.
All this can be done in a matter of seconds.
Way faster than it took me to write the first sentence.

Skookum's has the right answer, but he left out out the part of loosing depth, thats a negitive, she won't loose depth. If your not looking for iron object and your hunting in the A/M's as a primary mode and the secondary mode is Iron Disc. jack it all the way up, any sounds you here I would dig , could be a large iron object on its way out being Disc. or chirps could a good target being masks by an iron object (had that many time, as a third way switch then check it in reg. disc.and never go past 5 (nickels and gold ). Can't say enough about the 1270 its just AWESOME and it goes deep. Learn it and you won't reget it.

Thanks Shooter and Skookum for responding to my question. The reason I ask is because Ole Santa is supposed to be bringing me a 1270. Also I did a little test in my yard the other day only because I read so much about test gardens I figured I give it a try. Glad I did. The ground in my yard is hot as a firecracker, lose red dirt filled with little sparkles. I have 3 detectors one is a 1266x, the 2 new ones aren't.. I buried a .58 cal. bullet at exactly 8 inches. No machine would it on the bullet using discrimination no matter what adjustments I made. This shocked me on the 1266 because I've dug many bullets with it at 12 or more inches using Disc. 1 at 2 and Disc 2 at 4. Just shows what ground conditions can do. So anyway I then tried all metal. The 2 new machines did barely pick up the bullet, both read low numbers jumping all over the place, nothing I would dig unless I was really hard up. The 1266 hit on the bullet at 0 disc. like it was 2' in the ground but a rusty nail at 2 " would give the same response. So, if the 1270 in all metal picks up that bullet as good as the 66 but I can switch to the Iron disc to make reasonably sure its not a rusty nail then I'll be good to go. I don't want to disc out large iron, don't want to miss a bayonet, shell frag, etc. I like the single tone and snap, crackle and pop. Gave different tones and number displays an honest expensive go but it just don't work for me. So the 1270 and I should get along pretty well especially If I can hunt in all metal and still disc out small iron without losing depth of the all metal mode.
Thanks again Guys,

Shooter, Its cool that you own an F75 and still praise the 1270 :clapping:

she should hit it as good as the 1266, but i'd say better. I understand why you don't want want to loose big iron, A bayonet is something you don't want to loose. Iv'e pull up many of axe heads and horseshoes way down every bit of 12"'s in all metals. anymore help just ask, love my 1270, its a power house you will be surprised at the depth extremly deep even with the 5" coil.

High shooter,
I usually hunt in all metal ground balanced (primary) with iron disc on (secondary)
My normal disc set just under 5
This way if I just flick the iron disc off I am automatically in normal disc in secondary mode.
So my way of elimination is:
All metal - small metal - normal disc.

Just my way of doing it.

I sure hope you can type faster than me.LOL

Any way i have been thinking about getting a 1270 and your post is a big help.
thanks

If your shooting in A/M's and checking in Iron Disc you won't loose any depth and if its anything other then Iron it will still ring out, dig it, The 1270 doesn't lose depth in Disc modes like the older detectors did. Try this, go ALL Metals with IRON Disc toggle "ON" and set at MAX disc and hit a target check it in Iron disc (Some bigger Iron will not wipe out on any detector) if its still good, turn off Iron Disc. and check-it in regular DISC set at 5 (to keep in gold) she's still there it's should be something good. Deep big iron can fool any detector, I still get large iron with my F75 LTD but the high readings don't have any confidence bar so I know ahead of time its mostly large iron. Hope it helps you.

Sorry Skookum missed your post and I just said the same thing, I use the same method, good to know other great minds think alike...................
