Question about Teknetics Big Bud

Don't know if this is the right forum or not because this isn't really a mod question, but here goes....I have a older model teknetics big bud (red case) mounted on the circuit board the are some pots. Does anybody know what these adjust. The reason I am asking is because It ID's a quarter as a penny and a penny as foil and I just think it may be a simple adjustment of one of these pots.. Also does anybody which color wire does what (tx/rx) going to the coil Thanks Tom

And was detector of the year in 88 or 89 and although was tough on batteries was an excellent unit...I would contact Keith Wills, Brokendetector.com as he works on these older units. I think the pots are all intertwined and you would need the expertise and equipment to properly setup the ID....

I keep hearing "hard on batteries" on these units. I use a 220-D and I can run 2 or 3 days on a set of 9V batteries. You probably have to use headphones (I always do) That's my experience........

Hey Silversmith!

Got any idea where I can find an old BBPro 220? (Red Case)

Only detector that my wife would use back around 1990... Sold it during hard times, and she simply won't try anything else...
(She still brings that up too!)

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

I donno. My 220 (d) has a black case. Much confusion about red case and black case. I'm doubting if anyone knows for sure. Good luck.

Only one that had red case was the Big Bud Pro all other variations were black...Newer models such as the 220 were changed as to have normal lifetime on batteries..But the older models such as the Big bud pro and Big bud were hard on batteries...

I have a red case and it is marked BIG BUD PRO.

All the Big Bud 220's I have seen are black cased and have two meters in the one window.
(have only seen two)

There was a Big Bud 220 posted for sale a week ago at the depot.

I would sell this one if the offer was right.
It has the stock coil and also the optional 10" coil.
Works fine, has good depth, but the ID meter reads just a tad low on the scale ... just a tad.

Could be willee you have some crudded up controls. Do this at your own risk. Take a pencil or marking pen and mark where each control is now. Then take a tuning tool and twist one control back and forth a couple of times ending up at the mark where you started. Turn on your detector and test for any change in the TID. Move on to the next control. Always be careful to return the control where you started. Might work.....might not. Giver hell dude!

I had a Big Bud by BH but I didn't see any model number on it, it had I think nickel protect feature or someting like that it was a black case. I know it locked on to a Silver 50 cent piece that I over passed with my fisher because the noise was to loud like a pop can. It also locked nicely on silver rings,The coil and detector became erratic after a few years and I pratically gave it away. Never tried poping off the cover and adjusting it , I always figured that who ever designed it had more knowledge than I did. I like to keep my Golden screwdrivers outa things that I don't know much about. G.L. finding someone that can help you though.
