Question about Semi-Auto Sensitivity

I was wondering if one chooses to use Semi-Auto Sensitivity, why would they choose anything other than 32? According to the manual, "In Semi-Automatic Sensivity mode, the detector continously monitors the enviromental conditions and will adjust the Sensitivity as close as possible to your specified level of sensitivity." If the computer will do what it takes to keep the unit stable then wouldn't you want the highest level available?

Just curious.

My feeling on this is if you turn up the sensitivity to max and run auto sensitivity it will be OK in clean ground, but when you have trash or any items you disc out the detector will over compensate and lower the sensitivity to low and you can miss a coin on top of the ground. Now if you run it lower it will not over compensate as much and actually do better in the same ground. On my test in trashy site I find running sensitivity around 16-18 in auto makes no difference than manual, but over that in trashy grounds I seen lose of depth as it over compensates. Now lower then 14 it seems in trashy ground it is better now in auto.
I feel the higher it is set in auto the more it will affect the sensitivity.

Ricks answer seems plausible to me..Doing a lot of research and some experimentation on my own it appears the experienced Explorer users use manual and adjust accordingly and excell..I think one super test for your area and all areas differ is to get a deep hit in manual perhaps in 20's and put it in semi-auto at Max. and you can judge from there( is the hit stronger-weaker-about the same etc.) and you will get a feeling for what works best in your ground.Having used many
different units over the years have learned high settings are not always good and of course will vary and after a while you will find what works best in your area..Explorer is a mult-faceted unit and works quite well in many settings depending upon the users area and its conditions. Imagine a Minelab Tech. could give you a technical answer but these are my feelings in laymans terms...Nice part of an Explorer with Sensitivity no programs to go into just a button to change at will....
