They have been around for along long time :poke:.

Most of the time it was not a huge issue because....you could not miss what you did not have.

One thing to realize too is most of the coils back then were concentrics or monos and pinpointing the target center was a little more accurate than a DD was.....for one thing.

But it could get a little frustrating and I have dug more holes that were oversized back then too. I am sure a lot of guys like me also used coils 8" or less.....not too many 12" coils if any. An 8" was standard coil and when I hunted in the woods or similar you could always stick your coil down in the hole to find it and did this many times.

Obviously can't do that in a park or lawn.....so centering the target in that donut opening in a concentric coil was important.

I would not wish to hunt now with a 12" + DD coil without one. I am good at pinpointing with any coil but I must say...I am SOoooooo. happy we have good pinpointers.

Also glad we have now pinpointers that can detect more than just when it scrapes across the target. The first bullseye pointers were a nice tool but you had really touch the target almost for it to respond...atleast for dime or button sized targets.

Yah....it could be a challenge at times......

Years back it seems Whites offered the square boxed unit .May have been others before then, but that was my first brand pinpointer..
