I do not know how long they have been around, but I have seen some on the forums that look like they could have come from the 80s or 90s.

Been detecting since long before the little hand-helds came out and we just sifted through the soil with our fingers and ran a handful of dirt in front of the coil to see if the target was in it. Took a few seconds or a minute longer to find the target, but back then who cared?? There was no competition because nobody else around here had a detector, and nobody knew what I was doing. Now I would feel lost without one, but one old hunting buddy of mine still thinks they are a waste of time and money and he still finds great stuff without using one.

I sure could have used my propointer Monday. I was scanning my front yard for pipes because I had a man coming to disc me up a garden and got a nickel signal at about 8-9 inches with my GTI-2500 and couldn't find it for nothing. He came up about that time and I just let him go ahead and do his work. Unfortunately, I didn't lay out my rows due to my back that day and had to run back and forth all day Tuesday and Wednesday and we got 1.3 inches of rain last night. It's packed down and will have to wait 3-4 days for it to dry out and lay out my rows and get my little seeded tube to plant my seeds. I'm spoiled by my propointer, it's a lazy man's best friend.
