Question about Iron Mask on GT...

thinkin2

New member
I just received my new Sov GT and though I haven't had it out for a real hunt I did try it out in the yard. Looks like it's going to be a great detector. My question is about the Iron Mask feature. I tried it using a large nail on and close to several gold rings and clad coins. When sweeping length wise with the nail I cannot get a good signal on the good items. However, when sweeping at a 90 degree angle to the length of the nail I can get a signal but not with good depth (targets laying on top of ground) and the signal is not the same tone as it would be if the nail wasn't there. Is this normal? I've used the Explorer II and the Excal but don't remember ever using the Iron Mask feature so I guess this is new to me. Thanks for any help.

Not getting a signal when sweeping lenghtwise is perfectly normal,I don't think any detector on the market could get a small coin next to a big nail lenghtwise,it's because the nail is nulling out the detector all along it's lenght,at 90 degrees it's far easier to detect a coin, that's why you should sweep any iorn single from at least two directions in order to check for a coin signal.

Don't worry the GT is excellent in trash if you go slow,a smaller coin will help.
