Question about ground balance in Garrett 400i ( international )

Hello.
I'm writing to You from Europe, Poland exactly.

I'm thinking about buying Garrett 400i for my wife but I am complaining about ground balance in that detector.

I have AT Pro international on my own and in my neighborhood ground balance is around 84-88.

My question is about factory preset of ground balance in Garrett 400i. What kind of value is there ?

At garrett website there is an information that detector is adapted to european soils, but what does it mean ? Is the factory ground balance vaule is around 80 ? 90 ?

My wife doesn't need waterproof but I'm a little scared if the detector would work properly on high mineralized soils ?

sorry for my english :)

Best regards

Can't you contact the Garrett dealer and ask?
I'd say you're on the right track and that it should work to a good standard on most soils.
I was able to use my Ace400i @ Full Sens on a grass field where my E Trac usually settles on Auto Sensitivity 19 - 23

Hi.
I sent an email to my local garrett dealer but they have no knowledge about which value of default ground balance is in that detector.
I also tried to find technical support on garrett official site, but there nothing about it.
Maybe I should go to local store and try to do some brick test ? :) If I'm not wrong, brick simulate high mineralized ground ? For example, put coin under two bricks and check if it will be detected ?
regards

Witam,

That 'brick test' can be VERY severe and not true indication of ground in your area of Poland.

It's more to do with the Italians detecting on sites with what they call 'cocci' (Koch Ee) which is lots of old 'roof tiles' from old Roman buildings.
When they "fired" the material (heated) it changed the chemical composition and caused the tiles to become very mineralised and at times so prevalent on sites no detectors can penetrate through it.

I think you're worrying too much!!!

"Dobra.....dobranos!"

Thanks a lot :)
I think I'm ready to buy garrett 400i. Anyway I'll try to put here some tests, how detectors behave in various ground conditions. It might be helpfull for the next ones.

with rusty steel washers or steel bottlecaps? [nails to a certain extent]
A concentric loop seems to handle it somewhat better than a DD.
(you know in May Garrett is coming out with a new unit also?)

yes I know that there will be new garret in may, but probably it will be something like AT pro, and definitely much more expensive than 400i :)

I prefer DD coil than concentric because of better separation in trashy sites.
