Hey guys whats the difference in The Golden Umax and the Vaquero. Thanks and HH.
They are quite different as far as function, features and versatility. Oh, they are still the basic Tesoro type detector with the well known quick-response and fast-recovery, but different from each other.
The Golden µMAX (
microMAX not u or U MAX) operates at 10 kHz and uses the 'standard' Tesoro coils, as most refer to them, while the Vaqueros operates at ± 14.5 kHz.
The Golden µMAX relies on a factory/internal preset Ground Balance, while the Vaquero has a 3¾-turn manual Ground Balance.
The Golden µMAX has a 4-tone audio ID at about 240 Hz, 315 Hz, 370 Hz and 500 Hz, and the Vaquero's audio frequency is 293 Hz or VCO.
Both models use a broader lower-end Discriminate range of about ± ED-165, meaning they accept iron nails and more types of iron than the ED-120 Disc. circuitry, but do not to all the way to an ED-180 for All Metal acceptance.
Aside from that they are both close to the same weight and balance using the same physical configuration. I have owned 3 Vaqueros and 2 Golden µMAX models, and while neither is around now (in my arsenal), I wouldn't care to own the Golden µMAX anyway as those I owned and some I used didn't work all that great in varied ground mineral environments. As for the Vaquero, if it had a higher-pitch tone, and a toggle to switch between a Discriminate mode and All Metal mode, I would likely have one around.
