Question about gold on the Etrac

Last night, I found several pieces to a pocket watch within about a 15' radius in a yard that I strongly feel is virgin ground. I didn't find the case, but I'm wondering if it's there somewhere. This morning, I had a thought. I wondered why such a solid piece of metal in an area I covered pretty well could have gone unnoticed. I was using the stock coin program....which I have read blocks out gold. If it's there, and if it happens to be gold, should it still be picked up with the stock program? It's all been just a couple of inches deep...even the 1898 IH penny I dug was less than an inch down.

I did really well there (see thread) and I will be going back on Sunday to work it again. My tentative plan would be to hit the area where I found the watch pieces with a more open screen, but what do you guys think?

I would say yes the E-Trac should pick it up, but I would clear the discrimination window (push Quick Mask Button) just to be sure.

That's sort of what I figured. No idea if it's still there, or if it was even gold to begin with, but it might explain why I'm not finding it if it is still hanging out somewhere nearby.
