question about fisher CZ6

hi fellow MDers
I mainly do water hunting with a minelab excaliber 800,but I have a chance to buy locally a fisher C76. The guy says its in like new condition. It doesnt have a carrying case but he said it was always either in his trunk or garage. He said he bought it new in 95. He also said it had less than 20 hours on it.Not being familar with a fisher is there any certain thing I need to check for.he is asking $200 for it.Does this seem to be a fair price? Thanks for your help!!!

MATE RUN TO HIM AND IF HE HAS A SPARE 10" COIL I WILL BUT IT FROM YOU/HIM BUT AGAIN GET IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$200.00 for any working CZ is a good price.
I don't know about one thats been in a trunk or garage for 15yrs.
I keep my detectors in climate controlled space.
I would say test it out and if it seems to work right, I would buy it.

Take a set of batteries with you to test it it out but keep them in your car. See if the guy has batteries in it to test it out, and if he does not he may have something to hide, (NO WORRIES YOU HAVE A SET). Test it out really well, and if the guy acts like he is in a rush, save your money and run.
It may be a great deal but it just sounds too good.

I say test several targets. Bring a silver and clad dime, a small gold ring, a rusty nail, etc. Test them in all discriminate modes ( 0-6) as well as autotune ( all metal). Clad and silver should ring high tone, gold mostly all on mid tone, and iron at low tone. Also, test in both normal and salt mode. There should not be much if any difference with clad and silver in salt mode, but small gold is a bit harder to detect deeper in salt mode.

If if can hit a clad dime on the ground, with a high tone, at 9-10 inches with sensitivity at 4 or 5, then I would say it's in working order and a good one to get a $200.

Just remember that the CZ6 coils are not compatible with any of the other CZ models. It has a different coil connector.

I doubt if this is the case but a good bit of them kept loosing connection where the coil plug attaches to box as Fisher was using a new type plug which didn't pan out.
Thus many were converted to a CZ6A using a conventional plug and removing the pigtail from the speaker outlet..If the original plug fails as many did used to cost under $50 to convert by Fisher in 95 as I had one converted myself..Understand that cost has quadrupled and don't even know if the new Fisher will do..
Personally if I put in a new set of batteries and it worked well certainly a quality oldie but goodie for a decent price as I believe they originally sold for $895 or so and that was 15 years ago....your call but if it was in my neck of the woods would certainly be tempted...

Thanks guys for all your input.Im leaning toward getting it and I will keep u posted.THANKS AGAIN for all your help.HH
