Question about FE35 mode, civil war nails bleed through as good targets?

Today I was detecting in 35FE since so far this is as close to having it behave like I was used to my explorer in ferrous mode with the wide open screen.

With my explorer I never dug cut nails but today I was getting fooled by deep nails.

I went to screen option two and they still rang like a good target but did notice only in one direction.

90 degrees and they would try to break up, but I was afraid to not dig since that is how I figure a good target next to a nail would read.

Any help on overcoming this would be appreciated.

I did have my machine running hot 30 manual and 26 gain so the high gain may cause it, not sure?

Thanks, will try and post some finds from 40 year pounded sites.

The CTX running hot will light up the iron. I get more reliable results in Auto +3 in my ground. Sometimes even +3 will give too many falses and I have to go +2 or even +1. Too much sensitivity is not always a good thing.

I only run it high if it Will run smooth and have done some experimenting with deep (14") bullets

When I get a hit in manual 28-30 that is barely a peep, when I switch to auto even +3 the signal will disappear.

This is for relics, I found the opposite on the beach that auto +3 runs smoother.

The places I hunt have been hit for 40 years by the best relic hunters in the country with every machine prior to these newer generation detectors.

One thing that was very interesting today was my friend that kicks butt with his DMC 2 that is 30 years old but he was getting bad EMI from and underground power line but the 3030 was not falsing on 30 sensitivity except on occasion and all I had to do was drop it to 28.

That is one advantage of the noise cancel and the ctx that I am loving.

My explorer in this same area had to be toned down some I think around 24-25

I need to also experiment with the gain and see what happens to the iron?

Great reply Larry! I am a huge fan of a stable machine. Auto +2 most of the time for me. Sometimes in heavy trash +1.

Holler with any questions!
