Question about Excalibur knobs.

Since getting my Excalibur 1000 second hand a few months ago, I have found this forum
a treasure (excuse the pun) trove of information on its use. I thank all of you.
I now have a problem. I hunt in pinpoint mode all the time and switch to disc to identify the
target each time. Hence the disc/pinpoint knob gets a serious workout. Paint is worn off.
Today when switching, the knob went loose. I switched off and went back to my truck thinking
the knob had loosened on the shaft. Not so. I removed the knob and checked and replaced,
making sure the nut was tight. Turns out the switch is working normally but without the resistance
it used to have. It still stops rotation each way at about 1/2 a turn. There is no 'click' between
modes. Should I be concerned?

The knob switch may be worn out or broken. When that happens to mine, I send it to Minelab and have it fixed, just sucks, when we are in peak season!

Ever think about a pinpoint Button on the Handle? Mine is going to go soon......Just waiting. And Researching the necessity's for Now.....Might want to check with { Steve from Ohio} on this forum OR Heard that Minelabs is doing very well with quick turnaround times on repairs......Past Link Good Luck..Keeps us up 2 date...Obn

I heard from a pretty good source that a certain metal detecting accessories company has a remote pinpoint shaft for the excal in the works.Maybe about a month away....

Thanks for the replies. I am in New Zealand and the closest Minelab repair would be in Australia.
The Excal is still working despite the problem I described so I will keep using it for now.
