Question about Ebay...

Brandon/ny

New member
I recently set up a pay pal acct. and updated my ebay acct. I have been trouble finding work to spplement the G.I. Bill while I attend school, since I attend school at different times during the day. I figured I may sell some antiques(especially books) I have been collecting over the years and a few of my finds. I set up the basic paypal acct. and verified it. My question is if I sell an item on ebay and click the accept paypal option will the buyers $$$ go directly to my paypal acct. or do I have to set up another acct. i put a 100 year old baseball glove on for starting price of $50 and no one bid on it so I have never sold anything yet. Any tips or info on paypal, shipping, agreements or cautions would be greatly appreciated. I took all the vitual tours on ebay but still not confident I am set up to sell. Thanks a bunch!

<center> and yes they sell everything on there
I can help you also with a few questions ;)
Oh and the ghost in the bottle you see was on the bay for sale :D

I'm 15 classes shy of my Bachelors in Information Technology (Networking Geek Degree). I'm taking my first classes on line this quarter.

I have to take Career Development(now why should someone, like me, who has 19 years work experience need to take a class like this??) and Business Law. Most if not all of my good electives have been taken already. Now it's the drab requirements!!!

It goes in to your Paypal account which you can then have it wired to your bank account for free. Also when you have a balance in your account they'll use that money to pay for your purchase on E-bay. I've used it for five years now never a problem. Wish I had stayed with the basic account, which was free for sellers but a bit limited. The fees are a little high in my opinion. They get the listing the sell fee and the Paypal, seems a bit greedy to me!

The PayPal fee gets me. I just sold an item they take money from the paypal account. Then I get the selling fee. They could give the ebay people a break huh?

Way to go Butch, almost there and good field to get into. My grammar school was one of the first to have the Commodore 64's and my buddy"s brother worked for IBM and was always trying to interest us. Well I never took that route and still have trouble with Microsoft word, the fishing and bottle digging was fun tho :) I have to say, going to school at 30 is tougher, but I enjoy it more than ever before. I see a major difference in the attitude of older, night students compared to the 18-20 year olds, many of whom don't really want to be in school. It is a trip to be back in school. I often get weird looks when mentioning a certain rock group or line from a movie or T.V. show, I guess 10 yrs. difference is alot in a time of Reality shows and Puff Daddy. It is sometimes nice to talk to students who haven't hard economic times or been a part of the rat race, there is an innocence or ignorance that keeps one pessimistic on certain parts of life. Anyways,I will have an Associates in the spring in Individual studies, I went this route since it offered more lattitude to ready me for a 4 yr school and a degree in adolescent education, Earth science curriculum. I need 9 credits but am taking 16 because I picked up 2 history classes. Yeah now that I'm in school I wish I had gone the history route (perhaps, if time permits I can double major later in life)As for career developement, I see your point :) I know the education system is set up to ready you for a degree, but wish it was geared more for the individual; would save a lot of time and $. Good luck Butch and thanks for the reply.

Too scary for little kids rooms though!

I set up a small checking account separate from my regular one just to handle PayPal. The reason for this is because I do not want anyone to have access to my regular account. They transfer money within 2 day......this depends on how fast your bank accepts a transfer. People complain about the fees, but if you use their services to the fullest extent, then it is worth their fees. It is all in the cost of doing business.

When you list on Ebay there is several different ways for shipping. I prefer the "Calculate shipping" method. Once you measure and weigh your item in the box with packing material, you do not loose out at UPS or the Post Office because of under estimation. And the buyer does not feel cheated because they can see the actual shipping charges with UPS and USPS. You have to include a handling fee in your shipping. I use this to cover packaging materials (they can get costly) and the cost of posting on Ebay.

Pictures are a very important part of selling your item. The more detailed, and more pictures the better chance you have in selling your item. A worded description needs to be short concise and brief and in bold letters.

Research the items you want to sell. See how many listings there are for the same item and what are the prices before you list yours. DO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE of all the extra advertising hoopla that Ebay offers. It is costly and does not sell your item any faster. When someone is looking for a particular item they will find it by the search mode, not the advertising mode!!

Good luck

Only it was a 22 year break between High School and College for me and I went back when I was 40. Jeeze what a shock to the system.

However, it was not near as bad as I though it would be. Too bad I did not have the discipline for studying back then that I seem to have now. :nerd:

Now I just want to get it done with and move on. If my company was not picking up the education tab I would not be doing this thats for sure. They pay for the classes I pay for the books. They got the better end of that deal. :lmfao:

Good luck to ya' Brandon!!
