question about coils

I am going to purchase a new coil for my ace 250 tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which one is the best for coin hunting. Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS..............Luke

:usaflag:I just bought the 4.5" Sniper coil for my Ace 250...still waitin' by the mailbox for it. Although my stock coil does fairly well finding coins..a lot of the places I have been hunting..like my own yard..are loaded with trash targets. I'm hoping the Sniper will be able to work around them and pick up some stuff I've been missing. Judging from what I've read at this forum..the Sniper is the way to go. But on the othe hand, if you are field hunting where there is very little trash, you might do well with a 9" X 12"....some day when I get big I'll have one of those too. Hope that helps..happy hunting!!:detecting:

All 3 coils available for the ACE work great on coins. The sniper coil gets them close to metal where larger coils can't get to. The stock coil is an all around good coil, and the large coil will cover a larger area in a lesser time due to its larger size, while still maintaining good sensitivity to tiny objects. A rule of thumb....the larger a coil, the deeper it goes. I personally only use the sniper and large coil. My stock coil sits in the basement collecting dust.

You'll love that Sniper in trash infested areas or up next to metal or concrete with rebar. It's a lkittle dandy with surprising depth for its diameter.

Another rule of thumb. Diameter equates to depth except in the case of the Sniper. I think Garrett supercharged that little puppy.

I want a Sniper coil for my Gti-2500, but I am considering getting an Ace-250 with a Sniper coil and using it. This way I could leave the bigger coil on my 2500 for deep targets and use the 250 for trashy areas and tight spots next to metal fences, etc. Any advice? Plus, I would have a back-up detector. This way I would not have to be changing coils so much.

Hi fongu, Just buy yourself another shaft for the GTI2500 and put the Sniper on it, I've got a Scorcher coil for my GTI2500 and bought myself another shaft for it, it only takes about a minute to change. So much easier than unscrewing coils on & off the shaft.

Cheers

All 3 have their purpose. Just got the 9x12. Goes deep. Sniper works good in trash areas or areas you have gone over before and maybe the trash hid the coins. Stock one works really well in all conditions. Pays to have all 3 around close by in case you run into a difficult area. With the Garrett backpack you can haul all around with you plus any extras you may need.
