question about coils?

The slimline coil is one that come out when the SE was introduced while the 1050 FBS were on the older Explorers. The coil we use now on the E-Trac came out when the SE Pro was built and is the best coil Minelab made for the Explorers so far. The 1050 were heavier and where the rod mounted to the coil was not centered so the balance was not as great causing it to feel even heavier.

The FBS 1050 coil was the one used on the Explorer S, XS and II as well as the Quattro.

The Slimline coil was introduced on the Explorer SE and was based on the TS coils used on the Muskeeter and Soveriegn models

The coil which people call the Pro coil was first seen on the Explorer SE Pro hence the Pro name but in fact was developed as part of the E-Trac. Due to issues replated to getting the E-Trac ready for release, the release date slipped past the original planned date and the decision was made to add it to the Explorer SE and release it under the SE Pro monicker. So, in essence it is really the 11" E-Trac coil but since it was first added to the SE's latest version as the SE Pro, eberyone calls it the Pro coil.

It is also the coil that comes with the new Safari.

Hi Andy,

Happy New Year.

Will the Pro coil work on the Quattro? Also, I have a 5" Excrllerator coil for my Quattro, will it work on my Etrac?

Best regards,

Harry

You got some very good responses and I don't intend to contradict them. I'm not sure why you are asking but a number of us had trouble with the Slimline coil. Probably the most persistent got their problem resolved. I didn't get my problem resolved and I feel that others didn't either. My point is that there are probably a number of Slimline coils with a problem. Me and others solved our problem by switching to the 1050 or other coils. I found that Minelab service was not always as great as most of us say it is.

What exactly were the problems?

Harry,

Happy New Year to you to and hope the E-Trac is working well for you.

As far as coils go, and FBS coil will work on any FBS detector.

I added a Pro coil to both of my Explorer's and my Quattro (the Safari comes with one so I was saved buying one there).

The Excellerator / S.E.F / Detech / Coiltek / Sun Ray coils all work on them as well. I have been using the 5" Excellerator on my E-Trac at a few super trashy sites over the last month with nice results.
