Question about buying a machine on here(classifieds)

Dirt Poor

New member
I have a 70, and I really like it. I sold an XLT for a friend of mine, so he could get an X-70. I posted a "WTB" on here, and had several replies, but none of the members seem to have any "history" on here, so my question is....Would you buy from someone who only has a few posts? I'm a little leary, because I've read about some horror stories, and halloween is over........

Personally I would not , I bought my x-terra 70 off of the classifieds with no problem I have also bought a few other things off of there also . I always click on their name and read alot of there post and try to get an idea of them. It is always good to try and get a phone number when buying a detector also , that is a big investment. I also check the feedback forum altough sometimes people do not put feedback on there for you after a good dealing. Just my opinion though hope this helps.

Thanks, Seven. Since the "for sale" classifieds are a little more guarded, I guess the WTB's may not be as safe. I've had a few really "good" prices thrown this way, but..........

I posted a similar concern last year over on the feedback forum. My question involved trades, but the scenario is the same. If you have a good rep on the forum and the other person has no reputation, I would ask that they send the machine, and when you receive it you will pay for it.

The good folks on here are GOOD folks. I even had someone loan me a machine once (Tom E IL). He shipped his C$ to me to let me try out, no questions asked. I'll never forget kindness like that...

If you have a good rep, they should be willing to send the machine and let you pay for it when you get it.

If your looking to buy or trade and you have gotten no reply from people with a respectable history on the forum I would try Richard at Backwoods detectors he gave me a great deal on a 505 and is super easy going, Highly recommended, and has great feedback!

I posted a wtb and that is how I got my detector , but he had a good rep.

I have made a few deals here and so far so good. I always check the seller out as much as possible and exchange phone calls first.

I've had only good luck. I have sent trades off, and have always been well satisfied with any purchases I've made here. I will only pay with Pay-Pal, and only take Pay-Pal if I were to sell. --- Try to deal with 1-- a sponsor on this site, 2- A well known name on this site, or 3,- Check out the sellers e-bay record. I always give my E-B ID to my buyers, and want to check out their history. A high feedback #, with 100% positive feedback, adds confidence to any deal. Also you can check out the Feedback forum at this site. Maybe I've been lucky, but all of my buys here have been A-1.............

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I will check with Richard, but I know he moves alot of machines, so he may not have a 70 or 705 at this time, but who knows?

He had two 705 until recently, when I took one of his hands, but he might still have the other one. I know he'll shortly have a 70 that works just fine as I'm trading an almost new one back into him.
