Question about All metal mode on the MXT

The manual for the MXT states that in relic mode, with the trigger in the center position is a "mixed mode", meaning both all metal and discriminate. Is there just an "all metal" mode on the MXT? Or is it only on with the "mixed mode?" If I hunt in the relic mode with "0" discrimination and trigger in the center, would that be a true "all metal" mode on the MXT? I'm guessing it would be, but I'd like to hear from folks with the experience.

The manual is a bit off on this point. The C&J and Relic primary and alternate search modes all use a style of mixed-mode audio. The mixed-mode operation on the MXT is different from previous White's products in two respects. First, the all-metal portion of the audio response uses a much higher default S.A.T. setting than, for example, the DFX or XLT. Because of this, the all-metal portion of the mixed-mode response has a motion requirement. The other unique aspect to the MXT's mixed-mode operation is that the MXT automatically switches from all-metal mode to discriminate mode dynamically based on target strength. On the XLT/DFX mixed-mode, both all-metal and discriminate audio are always heard.

<b>"If I hunt in the relic mode with "0" discrimination and trigger in the center, would that be a true "all metal" mode on the MXT?"</b>

That depends on the precise definition of "true all-metal." With the disc. at 0, C&J Primary and Relic Primary and Alt modes will all provide a response to targets too weak for their VDI number to be determined (as will Prospecting mode, I might add). But the ground-balance will cause sensitivity to be lost for targets with a VDI number to which it is set.

Enjoy.

..I've been told by some others who use the MXT for relic hunting that I should set the MXT to "All Metal", discrim at "0" and dig every signal that is heard. I guess my question would be, is that then considered "All Metal?" By what you just explained, it would be "All metal" in the sense that it would be receptive to all metals and small, faint signals, however motion would be required with the coil. The MXT from what I understand you to say does not have a "no-motion, all metal" feature to it. Am I on the right track with that thought? What about the pinpoint mode VCO mode with the trigger? Is that a form of "no-motion, all metal" mode? Thanks,

Don

At the Zero level in the Relic Mode... it is ALL METAL MOTION (two channel).

By pushing forward on the toggle will get a nice audio Low Tone on Ferrous and High Tone on Non-Ferrous.
