QUESTION ABOUT A TROY SHADOW X2

I JUST BOUGHT A SHADOW X2 AND IT HAS THE MANUAL GROUND BALANCE INSTALLED ON IT THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM SAID IT WAS HIS FATHER'S DETECTOR AND DOESN'T KNOW WHO INSTALLED IT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO COULD HAVE INSTALLED IT SO I CAN FIND OUT HOW TO USE IT. I GOT A HOLD OF MR. BILL BUT HE HAS NEVER WORKED ON A SHADOW. NEED HELP.

Can't help you on the installation, but manual ground balancing is relatively easy. I don't remember if the X2 has a separate all metal setting, but if it does, set the threshold to a comfortable volume in all metal and bob the coil up and down in a straight line over a CLEAN spot and adjust the ground knob until the threshold tone stays steady in both the up and down motion. If it rises slightly as the coil is lowered that's usually okay, but a perfect balance would be no change in the threshold hum. If it doesn't have a separate all metal setting, hold the pinpoint button down while going through the above motions as that will put the detector in all metal, also. If the installed gb pot is a ten turn pot, you may have to turn a fair ways to find the balance point, at least the first time over your soil. Once this is accomplished, set the threshold to just audible and go hunting. On this model and the Tesoro Silver Sabre

With the 7" coil it had a very smooth soft sound on a penny at about 7". I'm pretty sure it's based off the other older Tesoro's. So the coils will work with it like the silver sabre , eldorado, bandio 2. So I'm sure you can put on a 9x8 coil or any of there other coils. Contact Tesoro to make sure.
