Question about 5.3 coil and settings. My coil is V stamped and new

I am going relic hunting tomorrow morning and only my second time out with the 5.3 since it has been too hot to hunt. I was playing with some adjustments in the garage and discovered a weird anomaly I hope. Last time I used my coil I had the boost on and gain on 10 and the coil is stable and deep doing some air testing tonight on brass. So I decided to jack the gain up to 15 and when I waived targets in front of the coil no response. Started backing the gain down to 1 number at a time and down around 10 or 12 maybe it still worked but over that and nothing.
When I tried a non V 12" coil I would get an overload sound so I knew the non V coil would not work but what is happening here? Is it still somehow overloading but I'm just not hearing it. I can jack my 10" stock DD coil up to 15 with boost on and get my sens on disc up to 90 or 92 in some places with no problem so what is happening here? I will do some more testing in the field tomorrow and will post what happened. The little coils has unbelievable depth even with boost on and gain of 10 but hope I can max it out to 15 as well. Anyone else have this happen? Thanks

Jerry

I had similar results on my last hunt (first one with the V5.3 too). Turned TX off, cranked gain to 15 and was pulling stuff from depth. I'm going to do a little "night hunt" now to check out what you did. Soil has a lot of decomposed iron so we'll see how it goes. (Tired, but dog needs to get out and have an old city park across the street.) What kind of depth were you getting TX on and gain at 10? (I pulled a silver dime and nickels @ 7" to 9" with none and cranked to 15...slightly scattered VDI's.) Getting better than that would be incredible! That little coil is going to open up some trashy sites for us real well.

Well...Only hunted for about half an hour using boost on and reduced gain @ 10. (That was the max for me too.) Couldn't find any good targets at depth but was digging tabs at 7"and found some copper at 6". Tried RX @ 11/12 but was getting a lot of iron falsing with 85 VDI's at irons edge. Tried the 10DD and was able to do on and 13/14 but so much trash that separation was a little tough. (Next time out I'll give 2.5 single channel a shot I think.) Looking forward to your results.
